Governments, Special Districts, and Zoning
Our firm has represented governmental entities and statutory special districts. Chris Brandt has served as the appointed County Attorney for Teller County since 1997.
The attorneys at Sparks Willson have the experience and expertise to represent and advice government entities on a broad range of issues. Such entities are subject to quite different and special requirements, and, as a result, can often require specialized legal advice. As a result of our general governmental representation, our attorneys are able to provide our governmental clients with advice in many areas, including open meetings, executive sessions, open records, land use/zoning and subdivision, taxation, TABOR restrictions, campaign practices, contracting, employment and human resources, finance, real property, as well as many others.
As counsel to the various County elected officials and departments, we have knowledge and experience concerning a wide variety of specialized governmental offices and functions.
In addition, the firm has a long and successful record representing land owners in the field of land use and zoning. In the past, we have represented a major national company in zoning one of the largest shopping centers in Colorado Springs. Our experience includes representing neighborhood groups opposed to large major retailers and developers in obtaining land and approval for commercial and residential developments. The firm has a good working relationship with zoning and planning officials coupled with a good working knowledge of the zoning and land use law that is essential for rewarding results.
